I made an upholstered headboard for our Cal King bed! 

Here's the price breakdown:
particle board - $16
2 1x4 pine planks - $4
egg crate king sized mattress pad - $44
fabric - $22
spray adhesive - $6
mirror wire - $2
2 d hooks - $2
staple gun - $30
batting - $20
jigsaw - free, used Dad's
drill - free, used Dad's
screws - free, used Dad's
GRAND TOTAL: $146


After reading this tutorial on Centsational Girl I was inspired to give this a go.  I've been lusting over upholstered headboards for quite a while now like this one from West Elm or this one from Restoration Hardware, but I couldn't swallow the $500-$1500 price tag that came along with it.  The best part...making this took 2 hours, and install was quick and easy after that.
